11 Feb Spirit of Iris
The story of Iris exemplifies the pioneering first women to fly on behalf of the US Military during WWII,
and the contributions they made and colorful lives they led afterwards.
World War II pilot and trailblazer, Iris Cummings Critchell embodies the phrase, “Life favors the prepared mind”. Her story is one of inspiration and preparation for life. The documentary follows a formidable woman, who not only swam in the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin, but was one of the first women pilots in the Air Transport Command to ferry aircraft from the plants to wherever the war effort needed them. At 95 years old, Iris still swims daily; maintains a current pilot’s license and instructor rating; and has given many historical presentations on her adventures.
